The city of Coal City, Illinois is a welcoming suburb on the outskirts of Chicago and not far from Kankakee and Morris, Illinois which is the largest city in Grundy County with just about 14,000 residents. The Coal City Jeep community is small because of the town size which has grown and developed over the last 180 years. In 2000, it had a population of 3,900.
Before the Coal City’s incorporation the history of Coal City has always hinged upon the resource coal. Coal City was one of many towns in the area that received its start by mining coal for local blacksmiths and farmers who added the natural resource into the ears of corn that were burnt in order to create heat and energy.
